At the graduate level, Bruce has studied geography at the University of British Columbia, theology at Acadia Divinity College (Acadia University), and religious education at the University of Alberta.
This diverse academic background provides Bruce with the opportunity to integrate natural sciences, theology, and Christian education into an opportunity to explore God’s creation in these courses. A strong academic background also encourages Bruce to ensure that these courses are intellectually rigorous, academically sound, and have theological integrity.
Bruce has been active in outdoor education and recreation through Christian camps and ministries throughout Canada. He has lived in British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and Alberta, and visited every province in Canada (yes, he has driven across Canada 9 times!). Beyond Canada, Bruce has traveled extensively in the United States, the United Kingdom, Western Europe (France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria), Turkey, Greece, and Lebanon.
His hobbies include painting, hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities. Check out some of my paintings (be kind -- I've only been at it since Fall 2009).
Bruce is
a member of the Canadian Association of Geographers (the national organization representing practicing geographers from public and private sectors and from universities),
a member of the Science and Religion Forum
an ordained minister, credentialed by the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (formerly Baptist Union of Western Canada), partner in Canadian Baptist Ministries.
Bruce is Lead Pastor at First Baptist Church,
Lethbridge, AB, Canada. First Baptist has a dynamic ministry with students from
the University of Lethbridge and
Lethbridge College.
Bruce has also been an advisor to the Board of A Rocha Canada, a Christian conservation organization.
Bruce is married to Marianne; they have three sons who also love God's creation!
