Ephesus ... City of Earthquakes
The great biblical city of Ephesus -- once home to 250,000 -- was rocked by several serious earthquakes, damaging, and eventually burying the major sites, including the great theatre, which sat 25,000. Excavations were begun in 1865 to uncover and restore parts of the city.
